Mufti Umar Farooq Shah is a distinguished Islamic scholar, researcher, and educator known for his expertise in Islamic jurisprudence, Shariah-compliant finance, and the practical application of divine law in addressing contemporary challenges. As a lecturer at Minhaj University Lahore, he teaches key courses such as Islamic Business and Regulatory Environment and Product Structuring for Islamic Financial Institutions. Alongside his teaching responsibilities, he supervises graduate-level research focusing on the comparison of AAOIFI Shariah standards with amendments made by the State Bank of Pakistan, highlighting similarities, contradictions, and their implications for the industry. In addition to his academic contributions, Mufti Umar Farooq serves as the convenor of the Seekers Islamic Society, where he organizes cultural and educational events, including the university’s annual Milad Festival. Through his role, he actively promotes Islamic values and encourages students to explore their practical applications in modern contexts. His commitment to community engagement and mentorship has made him a respected figure among his peers and students alike. Mufti Umar Farooq holds specialized training in Islamic jurisprudence through his Takhasus fil Fiqh wa Ifta and is currently pursuing his PhD, focusing on the amendments and clarifications made by the SBP to AAOIFI Shariah standards. His research reflects his passion for bridging traditional Islamic scholarship with modern economic systems to create practical, Shariah-compliant solutions for contemporary issues. A prolific researcher and thought leader, he has authored several articles in reputed journals on Islamic economics, Shariah compliance, and the role of divine law and intellect in shaping human societies. He has also organized national and international-level conferences and seminars on Islamic thought, contributing significantly to the intellectual discourse on Islamic finance and jurisprudence. Currently, Mufti Umar Farooq is working on establishing an institution that integrates religious, modern, and scientific education with social welfare initiatives. He is also producing a documentary series on the historical interplay between divine law and intellect in Muslim societies, exploring how these principles can guide solutions to today’s economic and social challenges.
