Introduction

Honey Bee farming course offers a broad learning experience for students looking to pursue careers in urban bee keeping and honey bee products manufacturing. This short course equips participants with the fundamental information and practical skills necessary to launch and run their own honey bee farm. In this course, students are introduced the key aspects of the honeybees farming by the experienced professionals that the trainees will be able to employ their skills and start their own business or find work in the relevant fields.

Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • Assembling beehives to desired specifications.
  • Inserting honeycombs into prepared hives.
  • Forcing bees from a hive using a smoke pot to inspect the hive and retrieve honey.
  • Destroying diseased bee colonies.
  • Arranging the sale of honey to local buyers.
  • Manufacturing of honey bee products e.g. beeswax candles, mosquito repellent, lip balm.
